Amazing hard-court season for Rafa after he defeated Novak Djokovic of Serbia in US Open final in 4 sets: 6-2, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 after 3 hours and 21 minutes of play.

22-0 is the win-loss score for Rafa in 2013 on this surface. This US Open title is the 13th Grand Slam title of his career. Congratulations, Rafa !

After the final, Rafa said:  “Probably only my team knows how much today’s match means for me. Playing against Novak always is a very special feeling. Probably nobody brings my game to that limit like Novak did. For a few reasons, this season is probably the most emotional one in my career. I felt that I did everything right to have my chance here. I never thought something like this could happen."  

After this great performance the next tournament where we can see Rafa is China Open. The tournament starts on September 30.

No problem for Rafa in US Open semifinal against Richard Gaquet of France. Nadal won in 3 sets: 6-4, 7-6, 6-2 after 2 hours and 21 minutes of play.

After the semifinal, Rafa said: "I'm going to try my best to win on Monday. What makes the difference is to win the US Open. For me the only important thing is the US Open. That's the most important thing."

In US Open final, Rafa will play against Novak Djokovic of Serbia. On head to head, Rafa leads Djokovic: 21-15. Their last match was this year in Rogers Cup semifinal when Rafa won in 3 sets: 6-4, 3-6, 7-6. 

About the US Open final, Rafa said: "It is good if both of us are playing at a very high level so the match becomes great because we play long rallies, we bring our game and it becomes a very difficult match for both of us, I hope to be ready for that. I'm going to try. I need to keep playing very aggressive and play a very, very good match. Only like this I'm going to have a chance."

Rafa defeated Tommy Robredo in US Open quarterfinal in 3 sets: 6-0, 6-2, 6-2 after only one hour and 40 minutes.

After the match, Rafa said: "I think I played my best match of the US Open this year. I am very happy with the way that I moved myself on court, very happy that the way I hit my forehand and my backhand especially.
Today I played much closer to the way that I want to play, playing more aggressive. When I had the forehand, I was able to change the direction a lot of times and with a lot of precision. I'm sure that's the way I have to play to keep having chances to be successful on every surface, but especially on this one."

In semifinals, Rafa will play against Richard Gasquet of France. On head to head, Rafa leads Gasquet: 10-0. Their last match was in 2011 in Davis Cup when Rafa won in straight sets: 6-3, 6-0, 6-1.

Rafa needed 3 hours and 12 minuted to defeat Philipp Kohlscreibher of Germany in 4 sets: 6-7, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 and he is in quarterfinals.

After this tough match, Rafa said: "It was very, very tough conditions, very humid. I'm lucky to be through, I fought a lot to come back into this match. When you are one set down, you can make a mistake and then lose another set, then the match gets completely crazy and anything can happen."

In quarterfinals, Rafa will play against Tommy Robredo of Spain who won the 4th Round match against Roger Federer in straight sets.

On head to head, Rafa leads Robredo: 6-0. Their last match was in 2009 at ATP World Tour Masters in Paris where Rafa won in 3 sets: 6-3, 3-6, 7-5.

After this great victory, Rafa said: "I think I played a correct match today," said Nadal. "To be able to win against him in straight sets is great news. I played better today than in the previous matches. Always a positive thing. Every win means a lot. I'm happy with the way that I am playing, and trying to be ready for the next match.
My serve is working, but I am not serving at 130 miles per hour every time. So it's working because I am playing well from the baseline. It's working because I am serving with the right percentage. It's working for the first three matches. We'll see if I am able to keep working."
